Jeff Koons’ “Balloon dog” is on auction.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , a Grumpy Cat art auction was also popular, although nothing was being sold for millions.

Jeff Koons’ claim to fame was in the 1980’s as part of a generation of artists who explored the meaning of art in a media-saturated era.

One of Jeff Koons’ “balloon dogs” is being added to Christines auction in NYC in November. Jeff Koons has made five of these 12 foot-tall stainless steel sculptures. The Orange Balloon dog is said to rake in somewhere between $35 to $55 million dollars.

Peter Brant, the owner of Newsprint Magnet is selling the Jeff Koons Balloon Dog sculpture to raise money for the Brant Foundation Art Study Center in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Last year, at auction one of the five sculptures, which looks like a clowns balloon animal, sold for $33.6 million, which is the most any piece of Koons art has sold for to date.

Each balloon dog has a different metallic color and, needless to say, are very rare and expensive to own.

A Jeff Koons retrospective opens at the museum of contemporary art in L.A in january. It will travel over to New Yorks Whitney Museum of American Art in June.

Do you think Jeff Koons’ balloon dog is worth $55 million?
