JC Chasez, Lance Bass Say 90-Second ‘N Sync Reunion Was All You Get

If you’re holding out hope that ‘N Sync’s 90-second reunion at the MTV Video Music Awards was a just a tease for a full-on comeback, don’t. JC Chasez and Lance Bass said that’s likely the last time you’ll ever see them all perform together.

The iconic boy band reunited for the first time in 11 years for just shy of two minutes over the weekend, and though all of Twitter was lit with absolute joy ( see here ), that’s likely the last time we’ll see them all together and performing.

Chasez admitted that reuniting was a lot of fun, but the only reason they all agreed to do it was because Justin Timberlake asked them to . “It was just about five guys who were great friends, who spent 10 or 15 years together touring and we… wanted to give that back to our fans, but we were there mainly to support Justin.”

Similarly, Lance Bass told the Associated Press Monday that he’s down for a bigger reunion, but that he finds it unlikely at this point.

“Who knows what will happen when he’s off tour. It’s simply not part of the conversation right now. We just focused on that one performance,” Bass said of the VMAs cameo.

“If we did anything like that, I think we would come up with something real special where we could actually call it “The Reunion.’”

Of course, a full-on reunion would really rely on Justin Timberlake, but he doesn’t seem to have any immediate plans to get the band back together for anything substantive. After his MTV VMAs performance, he wrote to his fans about what’s next:

“This letter is to tell you that we’re not done… Not even close. On Sept 30th, the second half of ‘The 20/20 Experience,’ ‘The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2’, comes out. Since all these songs were written together over a year ago, it’s been so hard to wait this long to release them. I can’t wait for all of you to hear ‘The 20/20 Experience’ in full.”

We’ll keep you updated just in case, but with ‘N Sync members in full agreement that a reunion is unlikely, there’s not much more to be said for now.
