Donald Trump’s successful annexation of Venezuela has been witnessed around the world. It now appears to be triggering a series of domino effects. With the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the White House has sent a clear message across major countries that put a chink in U.S. security goals. The U.S. president recently boarded Air Force One, hinting at his next plans, which include thoughts about countries such as Greenland and Denmark.

Speaking with Bloomberg TV reporter Annmarie Hordern, Trump responded to questions about revealing his motive behind capturing Venezuela. Citing controversy almost directly, he said, “Don’t ask me who’s in charge because I’ll give you an answer and it’ll be very controversial.” He then expressed authoritative control and added, “It means we’re in charge. They took our oil away from us.” When asked about plans to re-establish a U.S. Embassy in Caracas, President Trump said, “We’re thinking about it.”

It did not take much time for the U.S. president to relay his thoughts and plans of action. Through the RapidResponse47 account on X, Trump set the record straight and highlighted his desire to keep viable and successful countries around the U.S. only. The post read, “This isn’t a country that’s on the other side of the world… We’re in the business of having countries around us that are viable and successful, and where the oil is allowed to freely come out… It gets the prices down. That’s good for OUR country.”

Reporter: “Do you expect to take action against Greenland?”

President Trump: “Let’s talk about Greenland in 20 days… We NEED Greenland from a national security situation… Right now, Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place.”

Now, it took Kaitlan Collins, the chief White House correspondent, to relay another worrying message on X, raising a threat to Greenland within a defined timeline. She wrote, “We’ll worry about Greenland in two months. Let’s talk about Greenland in…20 days.” Considering Donald Trump’s long-standing interest in capturing the country, it appears nearly imminent that Greenland might be next in line for an American takeover.

In fact, just hours after the Venezuelan president and his wife were captured by U.S. forces, Katie Miller, wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, posted a rather controversial picture on X. It consisted of an image of Greenland overlaid with the U.S. flag. She simply captioned it with the word ‘SOON,’ which also indicated that the U.S. should take control of the Arctic Circle as well.

It did not take long before the post went viral on social media, sparking unrest among Greenlanders. The country is known for its untapped mineral wealth and NATO membership, which are seen as primary reasons for a potential annexation by Donald Trump. In response, Denmark’s ambassador to the U.S. criticized the possible Greenland takeover, adding that American security commitments apply to both countries.

Jesper Møller Sørensen reminded and wrote, “Just a friendly reminder about the US and the Kingdom of Denmark: We are close allies and should continue to work together as such. US security is also Greenland’s and Denmark’s security. Greenland is already part of NATO. The Kingdom of Denmark and the United States work together to ensure security in the Arctic.”

In the meantime, threats reverberated across Denmark as well after Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen condemned the remarks made by Trump. Speaking to the press, she said, “In this past year, we have had to pay attention to a lot. Threats. Pressure. Derogatory language. From our closest ally for a lifetime. Wanting to take over another country, other people. As if it were something you could buy and own. It doesn’t belong anywhere.”

In fact, the Danish prime minister has affirmed that the country has been strengthening its military capabilities like no other. Speaking with a Danish daily, she said, “We are in full swing, strengthening Danish defense and preparedness. Never before have we increased our military strength so significantly. So quickly.”
