According to hardware company NVIDIA, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V should arrive on the PC at some point this fall. Has the PC community’s prayers been answered? Don’t start celebrating just yet.
Although fans of the franchise have been preparing for the game’s arrival on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, many have wondered if developers were porting the title to PC. The deafening silence from Rockstar prompted some folks to start an online petition.
The company hasn’t said anything official about the game’s arrival on the platform, but a recent NVIDIA conference call revealed that Grand Theft Auto V is expected to hit PC later this year. Nothing about this release has been confirmed by Rockstar as of this writing.
NVIDIA’s senior director of investor relations Chris Evenden explained during the call:
Sales of specialty PCs like gaming systems and work stations continue to grow. The disparity reflects how consumers use these different classes of PCs. Many consumers look for PC as a general purpose device they can use for browsing, email, social media video. But much of this can be better served by a tablet. In contrast, gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin’s Creed IV.
This is certainly good news for the folks who were hoping that Rockstar would release the title for PC. Since Grand Theft Auto IV has a very strong and thriving mod scene, it seems a little odd that the company wouldn’t release the next installment on the platform.
The online petition for Grand Theft Auto V PC currently has over 315,000 signatures. This should give the boys and girls at Rockstar plenty of incentive to deliver what fans want. Considering the franchise started on the PC, it only seems fair to continue the tradition.
