Google takes Yahoo deal critics head on with new website

Google has responded to a chorus of criticism over its Yahoo search advertising deal by launching YahooGoogleFacts.com, a site that spins Google’s side on the contentious deal.

The site includes slides, videos and details on why Google believes that the deal should be allowed to proceed without Government interference.

Google’s main line of defense is that the deal doesn’t reduce competition because they are only providing ads to Yahoo, and hence Yahoo continues to exist as a stand-alone competitor in search. Google even goes as far as comparing the deal to Toyota offering engine technology to Ford, but what they don’t seem to address is the main point being focused on by critics: that this deal gives Google a near monopoly position in search advertising. 90% is one figure mentioned elsewhere, but no where does Google address this key point. Still, Google obviously thinks the deal is in trouble if it has launched a site dedicated to marketing its position.
