Sandra Bullock has starred in her share of nail-biting thrillers and dramatic roles. However, her latest leading role was originally written for a male lead, and the actor who was set to star in the film was none other than George Clooney. Gossip and Gab shares about how the project was initiated.
“Clooney and his producing partner Grant Heslov were in talks for developing a drama that would be inspired by the documentary Our Brand Is Crisis from 2005, about a group of American political consultants hired by former Bolivian president Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada to help him get reelected.”
After Bullock reached out to Clooney, with whom she costarred in Gravity , they decided to flip the gender of the lead role.
The role within Our Brand Is Crisis was additionally written for Clooney. Entertainment Weekly reports on the switch-up between the the big screen duo. Sandra relayed this info to EW and noted reasons why she was considered for a part which was intended for a male actor.
“Initially, it was written with Clooney in mind. About two-and-a-half years ago I just put out the feelers saying, ‘I’m not reading anything I’m excited about. Are there any male roles out there that they don’t mind switching to a female role?’ “
As Entertainment Tonight shares, Bullock received her wish and was awarded the male-intended starring role. About the perfect opportunity and role she was granted, Bullock explains “[The character] is an amalgamation of an essence of a few people, she’s someone who’s superb in her field” and who “brings a degree of chaos when she steps into the world.” The Oscar award-winner continued to share that “you don’t get to read roles like this a lot. There’s a lot of unforgivable things that she does, yet somehow you have to cheer for her.”
Additional rumors and reports have begun circulating that the 51-year-old single mom and actress has been keeping her single status, while focusing more on achieving starring roles from the likes of George Clooney, due to the advice of a psychic she has been seeing regularly. Classicalite expands on the supposed legitimate subject and suggests that Bullock has taken an interest in the occult since divorcing Jesse James.
All of that aside, the film in which Sandra is now the lead opens on October 30. The film’s director, David Gordon Green, indicates that the film is “going to start a lot of conversations.” There is also talk of the flick putting Bullock in Oscar contention once more, all thanks to her pal Mr. Clooney and her own incredible talent.
