GLBT social networking site Gays.com has launched into open beta after 6 months of testing.

Gays.com pitches itself as a real (free) social network in a space where subscription sites dominate and there is often a focusing on dating first. Members can upload as many pictures and videos as they like at no charge and have complete control over their personal privacy with a wide range of settings.

Other features include LiveFeed, a life streaming style service that delivers content published by other members; a desktop PhotoUploader for bulk uploading; and Communiverse, an interactive visualization tool that helps members reconnect with old friends and explore relationships between existing friends.

It’s a smart offering that focuses on community and networking within the GLBT community, and the URL helps as well; the site founders purchased it for $500,000 in November 2006.
