Country music legend Garth Brooks received country music’s highest honor when he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

According to NBC News , the Oklahoma native, Garth Brooks, had his induction ceremony on Sunday. The star-studded ceremony featured music greats including Bob Segar, George Straight, James Taylor, all of whom Brooks has cited as influences in his career.

“There are big days in your career, like when you join the Grand Ole Opry…and I didn’t think anything would top those. I might have lied. This may be the biggest night of my of career. I’m so excited and nervous, and feel so undeserving, all at the same time,” Brooks told Reuters on the red carpet.

Garth Brooks is the best-selling solo country music artist in United States popular music history. He has sold 128 million albums and has won two Grammy awards in his career that has spanned three decades.

James Taylor said that he felt honored to perform Brooks’ 1992 hit song “The River” during the ceremony.

“It’s meant so much to me that Garth has mentioned me over the years as one of his influences,” Taylor said.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located in Nashville, Tennessee, serves to honor the history and traditions of country music. Hall of Fame inductees are voted for by a panel of current members, which include artists such as Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, and The Everly Brothers.

Brooks was inducted on Sunday, along with country music veteran Connie Smith.

“I’m excited and nervous and proud and thankful and blessed,” Smith said when accepting her membership. “I believe it was God’s destiny for me to be a girl singer in country music. I’m proud to be part of the country music legacy.”
