Since social media has become a big part the general public is recent years, people have been using this medium to push ideas and suggestions that generate support. The newest idea is to see LGBT characters in animated love stories. This has become a movement and the focus is on the long-awaited sequel, Frozen 2 .

According to Seventeen the movement started on twitter with the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend . The idea started with one teen with the username of Alexis Isabel on Twitter. It was not Alexis’ intent to start a movement, but to express her own feelings to see LGBT relationships represented.

Alexis tweet was highly supported by her followers and this lead her to create the hashtag. That is where it all started, and it quickly turned into a trending topic on Twitter.

The true aim of this movement is to ensure that kids know that being gay is acceptable. “#GiveElsaAGirlfriend because LGBT kids deserve to know that there is nothing wrong with them.” The supports of this movement believe that it is time to put an end to “hetero-normative pattern” of love story which the animation studio has been known for all these years.

Alexis expressed that she never knew that a woman could love another woman based on the love stories that she watched growing up, and she wants to see a change in that for the younger generation.

“Growing up, I never saw a princess fall in love with another princess — and neither have girls growing up right now. The entertainment industry has given us girls who have fallen in love with beasts, ogres who fall for humans, and even grown women who love bees. But we’ve never been able to see the purity in a queer relationship.”

Support to see Frozen 2 as the first LGBT relationship has being growing all over Twitter. Users have been tweeting to Disney, the creators of Frozen , as well as the voice actors to let them know that they want to see a gay Elsa in Frozen 2 .

Currently, the Frozen is one of the most popular movie of @Disney ever. Now is the time to #GiveElsaAGirlfriend because it’s okay to be LGBT

Supporters are hoping that Disney will get on board to give Elsa a girlfriend in Frozen 2. Disney introduced a gay role in the Disney Channel show Good Luck Charlie, fans are hoping that this means they will be open to the idea of creating an LGBT character in a movie as big as the Frozen .

“Elsa is so much more than a poster image — for me and for every girl who has and will watch Frozen. Giving young girls the chance to understand that a princess can love another princess the same way Cinderella loved her Prince Charming is vital to their development. No one deserves to feel isolated and confused about who they are. All we need is someone to show us that there are other options, other kinds of princesses, and other ways to have the happy ending that you deserve.”
