An exorcism of a young woman in a church in Argentina was captured on video. Rare footage of the ritual to force demonic spirits out of the possessed showed priests or exorcists pinning down a screaming woman in a Lutheran church. The disturbing documentary of the practice has gone viral, citing a New York Daily News report.
The exorcism video shows a 22-year-old woman being led to a mat inside the church. Then, the exorcist charged with carrying out the ritual begins. Moments later, the woman, initially catatonic, begins to writhe on the floor and struggle violently as others held her down. She is shown biting, spitting and perspiring heavily.
When the priest places a wooden cross on her chest, she arches her body in a violent manner, while screaming as if possessed by something on the inside of her body. The scene sharply resembles the classic move, The Exorcist .
One person who witnessed the exorcism in the Argentine temple said he was there to pray for the woman. He describes her as troubled. However, it’s unknown what was possessing the woman and why it had to be exorcised.
“She was a good girl but turned bad when the devil possessed her. She had to be exorcised, she had to be free.”
Bishop Manuel Acuna, 52, performed the exorcism in the Lutheran Charismatic Church in Argentina. He spoke with reporters about the ritual on the young woman, and attempted to debunk beliefs that the practice was staged or part of the power of suggestion.
“We are talking about something terrifying, a fallen angel. He’s not an idea, he’s not a theory, he’s not something abstract. The devil is a personality and therefore has a strategy. We are talking about something terrifying, a fallen angel. The devil is not a metaphor. The devil is something real that Jesus Christ faced. The devil is not a metaphor. Ironically, the word “exorcism” is not necessarily of Biblical origin. Pope Francis approves of exorcism as part of the Church’s ‘love and acceptance,” as previously reported by Inquisitr . And contrary to a widely-held belief, the practice is not limited to the Catholic religion, as defined by New Advent .
“Exorcism is (1) the act of driving out, or warding off, demons, or evil spirits, from persons, places, or things, which are believed to be possessed or infested by them, or are liable to become victims or instruments of their malice; (2) the means employed for this purpose, especially the solemn and authoritative adjuration of the demon, in the name of God, or any of the higher power in which he is subject”
Later, the woman looks exhausted and appears to surrender. She then collapses and lies in a supine position on the floor of the church, and talks in a breathless manner to the Bishop.
