EVO 2013 had an incredible turnout, with Super Smash Bros. Melee breaking streaming view records!

If you followed the EVO fighting game tournaments in Las Vegas this weekend, you may have noticed a greater turnout than ever before, as previously reported by The Inquisitr . With such games as Injustice: Gods Among Us , Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition , Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 , Mortal Kombat 9 , King of Fighters XIII , Street Fighter X Tekken , Tekken Tag Tournament 2 , and Super Smash Bros. Melee , the fighting game tournament stream drew a massive audience.

The Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament almost didn’t stream, as Nintendo had shut down the stream for reasons yet unknown. However, after Nintendo allowed the stream to commence, Super Smash Bros. Melee ended up breaking records in concurrent views for the tournament, more than any other game.

This could be a good sign for those politicians hoping to curb video game violence, as probably the least violent game of them all ended up being the most popular. Nintendo just knows how to make games, in all honesty.

The record breaking 100,000 views that Super Smash Bros. Melee brought to the EVO 2013 tournament actually managed to outshine the hype that Capcom was putting into the release trailer for Ultra Street Fighter IV . The trailer for that game was released last night just before the final rounds of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition , with information about what the update will add to Street Fighter IV across the board, as previously reported by The Inquisitr .

Who could have guessed that watching Super Mario and friends beat the bejeezus out of each other would get more viewership than the antics of Ken, Ryu, Akuma and the gang?

If anything, EVO 2013 has revived interest in fighting games everywhere, as new updates for the latest fighting games were announced throughout the event. We still find it odd that the one event Nintendo almost didn’t allow ended up being the most viewed part of it all. Was this planned, or coincidence?

For now, Smash Bros Melee is the most watched fighting game in history, with 100k concurrent #evo2013 viewers!
