Evan Rachel Wood wants you to know that people sometimes make mistakes, especially when they’re teenagers. The actress also believes people are frequently pretty cruel.
The Thirteen star recently opened up about a number of topics with the folks at The Daily Beast . In addition to discussing how people tend to treat Justin Bieber these days, Wood also discussed her romance with shock rocker Marilyn Manson.
Although it’s clear that she doesn’t have any regrets about their relationship, Evan Rachel Wood told the outlet that it was probably a mistake. After all, most people tend to stumble during their teenage years.
Wood was only 19 when she started dating Marilyn Manson , who was 36 at the time. The actress and the musician first got together back in 2006, though they briefly went their separate ways in 2008. The pair eventually reunited and quickly got engaged in 2010, though their romance would end months later.
Since Evan Rachel Wood was still relatively new to the entertainment business, she was a little shocked by how outwardly cruel and hostile some people were about their controversial relationship. The actress told The Daily Beast that dealing with the backlash was more than a little difficult at the time.
“People were pretty mean. At the time I hadn’t yet been exposed to that kind of cruelty from strangers,” the actress explained during her recent interview.
She continued, “If people were wondering why I was acting so-called crazy or like a teenager, it’s because I was. People go through phases. People make mistakes. People go through life and don’t get it right every time.”
However, everything seemed to work out in the end. Evan Rachel Wood recently tied the knot with Lone Survivor star Jamie Bell. The couple welcomed a son into the world four months ago. While she admitted that her teenage years had their fair share of drama, she never experienced the same level of scrutiny currently reserved for Justin Bieber.
“I can’t imagine what it’s like to be him. When you’re a teenager in an adult career, people expect you to be perfect and expect you to never make mistakes or to be a reckless teenager. And then when you are, they give you such a really hard time for it. You have to remind them that you’re still a kid,” she explained.
