Emily Deschanel and co-star David Boreanz return to the world of killers and forensic science when the hit FOX series Bones returns this week.

If you’ve gone through withdrawal waiting for the series to return for a brief break, then you’re no doubt ready to dive head-first into another installment. A brand new episode featuring the ongoing adventures of Dr. Temperance ‘Bones’ Brennan and Special Agent Seeley Booth arrives tomorrow night (January 10) at 9 pm ET.

Although Pelant (Andrew Leeds) died earlier this season, his parting words about the so-called “Ghost Killer” are causing Brennan to have some disturbing dreams. What’s more, the mysterious murderer could have connections to her current case. In short: The plot is thickening at an extremely rapid pace.

It would appear that Emily Deschanel and David Boreanz will have their work cut out for them this season. Executive producer Stephen Nathan provided some hints about where Bones is presently headed.

“Brennan is the type of person who is not going to forget the words of warning that were given to her by Pelant. We will see that surface in a way that concerns Booth and the other people at the lab and is something they’re all going to have to contend with, seeing how immersed and overwhelmed Brennan is by the idea of this new serial killer,” he said.

Nathan also provided TVLine with hints about a possible subplot involving one of Brennan’s so-called “squinterns.” When the show returns, a story involving one of her laboratory assistants explores how one character’s history affects his ability to get work done.

“He’s someone who came to the country seeking asylum. He was a very, very prominent forensic anthropologist in his own country, but [in the US] he’s a student because he has to get his degree again,” Nathan explained.

He continued, “He has to work his way up to a position that he already occupied for many years. He feels that he’s Brennan’s equal, but Brennan really doesn’t feel the same.”

To keep you going until tomorrow evening’s episode rolls around, have a look at the latest promotional image from Bones below. It’s not much, mind you, but it definitely serves as a suitable stop-gap while you’re counting down the hours.

Fans of Emily Deschanel and Bones will have plenty of mysteries and drama to keep them extremely happy when the show gets back into the swing of things this Friday. Are you looking forward to the new episodes of FOX’s long-running series?
