Ellie Goulding knows a thing or two about problematic relationships.
After spending time in the trenches, the singer is presently in a strong relationship with McFly singer Dougie Poynter . However, anyone who has followed Goulding’s personal life knows that she’s had a bit of trouble navigating the battlefield of love. In fact, some folks seem to believe that Ellie broke Ed Sheeran’s heart after she cheated on the him with One Direction singer Niall Horan.
Since she’s faced a handful of breakups in her day, Ellie recently offered up some words of wisdom during a conversation with Today . Although splitting up with someone is definitely tough, Goulding believes it doesn’t have to completely shatter your life .
The singer explained:
“I think with relationships ending, trying to get yourself out of tunnel vision and getting yourself to stay in the moment as much as possible is important. Occupy your mind and stop thinking back on past thoughts, or what may happen in the future. Remain in the present, be happy to be alive and healthy. You’ll get over it!”
Of course, saying “You’ll get it over it!” to someone who’s just ended a relationship is akin to telling someone in the throes of a panic attack to “calm down.” In Ed Sheeran’s case, he dealt with the heartache by penning the tune “Don’t.” However, the songwriter hasn’t admitted that the song is about his experience with Ellie Goulding.
She might have a boyfriend now, but the singer previously told Marie Claire that finding a significant other was a bit of a challenge . This is because fellas apparently only see Goulding as “wife material.”
Ellie told the publication:
“That’s probably why I’m single! People want to marry me — and nothing before it. People might think I am [squeaky clean] but I’m not. I’ve been quite clever about what gets in the press but I’ve done some stupid things, some reckless things. A few too many drinks have caused a lot of things to happen.”
While it would appear that she’s focused a lot on relationships these days, Ellie Goulding doesn’t want to discuss that sort of stuff on her third album. In fact, the singer is purposely avoiding the topic on the upcoming endeavor.
“I want it to be more about other things, and although I do write a lot about relationships, I like writing about the world and the things that I see as well. I’ll try to avoid writing about love at all costs!” she said.
