Drake recently released his video for “Energy,” and it has caused some controversy. Gossip Cop has the news .

“Drake is being slammed online by fans who are offended that he went in white face to impersonate celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber in his new ‘Energy’ music video.”

Drake superimposes his face onto African-American stars as well, including Oprah Winfrey and Kanye West. It’s obvious that he wasn’t intending to start any controversy. But in a time when everybody gets offended at everything, a lot of people are offended.

Do I even need to comment on Drake doing white face? Can we stop pretending to be different races to make fun of people for some reason

Besides the white face controversy, many critics really like Drake’s new video. Consequence of Sound thinks Drake’s video for “ Energy ” is bonkers — in a good way.

“Now that it’s finally been revealed, however, we can safely say that the Canadian MC’s lived up to fans’ expectations of a totally bonkers visual experience.”

Consequence of Sound notes that Drake’s video was directed by Fleur & Manu, known for their work with M83 and Gesaffelstein. Noisey was also very impressed with the video and referred to it as “the craziest sh*t we’ve ever seen.”

“Overall this video is too ridiculous to be anything but successful, proving once again the childhood adage that all bullied kids hear: if you make fun of yourself first, nobody else will make fun of you. And while Apple Music manages to snag a video from the biggest rapper in the world, TIDAL users continue to enjoy the Free Weezy Album .”

The controversy has also made many Drake fans defend the video for “Energy.”

“Wasn’t the point of impersonating these people to show examples of famous people who have a lot of haters and what not?” wrote commenter unfriendlyblackhottie in the comments section under the Gossip Cop article.

Another commenter said what a lot of others are thinking, “What is wrong with you Americans?? You have so many high and mighty and holier than thou standards, you get offended by friggin everything!! Get a life, lighten up, develop a sense of humour, geeez!!”

Drake is certainly getting the last laugh at the controversy over his video. 2015 has been a very successful year for the rapper. After several months, Drake is still in the top 20 with his hit album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late , which hit No. 1 during the first week of its release. Drake’s Jungle Tour has also been a success, even if low ticket sales were reported in some cities. Drake isn’t just a rapper; he has become an icon.
