A dog and suitcase found abandoned at a busy railway station in Scotland has prompted an investigation into who left the animal there. The dog and luggage were discovered without any sign of the canine’s previous owner. Whoever decided to reject the beautiful dog at least left belongings, which included a pillow, food, food bowl, and a toy, according to the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

A USA Today report reveals that the dog was found on January 2, tied to the Ayr railway railing in South Ayrshire, Scotland. He’s a 2 or 3-year-old Shar-pei crossbreed that’s microchipped. His name is Kai, according to inspector Stewart Taylor. The microchip led investigators to the people who sold Kai to his latest owners, but they didn’t have the buyer’s contact information. Kai was sold on Gumtree in 2013.

The SPCA is investigating how the dog and suitcase got abandoned.

According to the SPCA website, they draw attention to the fact that many people purchase animals that they know very little about.

“Unfortunately they could not tell us the address of the person who bought him. This case highlights the potential consequences of selling an animal online as it often leads to the impulse buying of pets that people know very little about.”

In the meantime, the SPCA is taking care of the dog until a new owner is found for him.

Scotland has a law that states if anyone is found guilty of abandoning a dog, they may lose all rights to ever owning one again, according to the Animal Health and Welfare Act of 2006.

“Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.”

U.K.’s Daily Mail reports that over 100 offers have been placed to adopt the young Shar-pei. The dog is said to have some training and is settling into his foster home in Glasgow that’s been provided by the charity organization. Footage of Kai can be seen with him happily eating dog treats from a handler at the SPCA. He’s shown evidence of having at least some training in his background. He’s seen “shaking hands” and appears quite willing to please.

Clearly, the dog has no signs of fear or abuse. It seems that he was abandoned by someone who felt they could no longer deal with it.

Hopefully there will be some answers soon as to why the dog and suitcase were abandoned .
