Actor Dennis Burkley, best known as the voice of Principal Carl Moss on the animated TV program King of the Hill has died. He was 67-years-old.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , Burkley died in his Sherman Oaks, California home on Sunday of a heart attack. He passed away in his sleep.
Burkley was born in Van Nuys, and received a master’s degree in theatre from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. He pursued a career in acting , and landed his first role in the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Stay Hungry after he met director Bob Rafelson.
At the time, he was working as a pool boy.
Burkley was a successful and respected character actor with numerous film and television roles over a four-decade career. Apart from his work on King of the Hill, he is also known for playing the imposing mute biker who became friends with Eric Stoltz’s character in the 1985 film Mask .
He also appeared in Hill Street Blues, Heroes, Hollywood Homicide, Wanted: Dead or Alive, JAG, The Drew Carey Show and My Name is Earl.
In film, Burkley has appeared in No Way Out, Who’s That Girl, Fletch Lives and The Doors . He also co-wrote and directed a 2005 independent film called Repetition.
In life, Burkley was often confused for another character actor, Mickey Jones.
He is survived by Laura, his wife of 46 years, their daughter, Shannan and a son, Shawn. Services for Dennis Burkley will be private.
