Authorities say country music singer David Allan Coe was injured during a car crash in Florida on Tuesday.

According to police reports , the 73-year-old crooner was driving his 2011 Suburban in Ocala, Florida when he was broadsided by a semi carrying produce after reportedly running a red light.

Witnesses say the impact flipped the semi on its side, causing it to spill its haul of corn and radishes across the busy Ocala intersection. The crash also destroyed a traffic control box, tying up traffic for hours.

Coe, who was thankfully wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, was removed from the mangled SUV by Ocala Fire Rescue officials.

David was cited for “violation of a traffic control device.”

After the accident, Bruce Smith, Coe’s longtime road manager, said the singer was heading from a casino in Tampa to a home in Ormond Beach.

Smith also told reporters Coe is “doing OK” and that the singer’s wife has been with him at the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle, Robert Johnson, 59, and his passenger, Lisa Meade, 49, were both taken to an area hospital, where Meade was treated and released. Johnson is listed in serious condition.

According to Wikipedia , Allan Coe rose to fame in the 70s and 80s with hits such as “You Never Even Called Me by My Name,” “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile,” and “The Ride.” He also wrote the Johnny Paycheck classic “Take This Job and Shove It” which was later adapted into a hit film.

As a result of the injuries sustained in the crash, Coe has reportedly canceled two upcoming concerts in St. Louis and Louisville.
