Dallas Cowboys Trade Rumors: Seahawks RB Christine Michael Traded To The Cowboys

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys have finally acquired a running back, and it isn’t Montee Ball or Ray Rice.

The Dallas Cowboys have traded for Seattle Seahawks halfback Christine Michael. Last season, Michael ran for 175 yards on just 34 attempts as he struggled for reps behind Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin. Turbin was cut yesterday in order to complete Seattle’s 53-man roster.

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with free agent running back Fred Jackson , who was recently cut by the Buffalo Bills, per Adam Schefter. This trade was made, in large part, in order to create a roster spot for Jackson when he is officially signed by the Seahawks.

In return for Michael, the Dallas Cowboys sent a conditional draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks. Albert Breer of NFL.com reports that this conditional pick is a seventh-rounder, a disappointment to Seahawks fans.

In his time with Seattle, Michael was infamous for being a running back who had trouble holding on to the ball. Occasionally, Christine will have flashes of great talent, but those flashes are few and far between.

Michael may be able to excel in a Dallas Cowboys uniform, as the Cowboys have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Three of their starting offensive lineman (Tyrone Smith, Zack Martin, and Travis Frederick) were named to the Pro Bowl in 2014. It wouldn’t be a surprise if, when given more time on the field, Michael has a breakout season with the Dallas Cowboys in 2015.

On Saturday, the Seattle Seahawks traded away a fifth-round pick for safety Kelcie McCray of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Seahawks receiving only a seventh-round pick is a testament to how much they wanted to get rid of Michael.

Michael, who is five-feet-10-inches and weighs 221 pounds, adds decent depth to a Dallas Cowboys backfield that includes Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar, and Darren McFadden. The Dallas Cowboys lost two-time Pro Bowler DeMarco Murray during the offseason to the Philadelphia Eagles. Murray was starting to become one of the best running backs in the NFL when he departed.

What do you think of the Dallas Cowboys’ acquisition of Christine Michael, a backup running back from the Seattle Seahawks? Do you think the Dallas Cowboys will make additional moves before the NFL season gets underway? Finally, how do you think the Dallas Cowboys will fare this season?
