Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson shocked no one when they decided to their very brief marriage. Until recently, neither party wanted to discuss the issue with the public.
However, Stodden recently sat down for an interview with the folks at E! Online . According to the 19-year-old, she just “wanted to be free” from Hutchinson. Sporting tons of glitter, the teenager discussed the trials and tribulations associated with her marriage to the actor.
“I am feeling good. Obviously any break-up is stressful. We’ve gone through quite a bit as of late, but I am feeling good,” Courtney Stodden explained.
Although rumors suggested the model separated from Doug Hutchinson as a publicity stunt, she stressed that the breakup was due to her age.
“I don’t understand why we would do that right now, with how many people were against us. This isn’t a stunt… ‘I was definitely scared but I think I felt more pressured and responsible. When we got married, he lost his family. His managers dropped him, his agent put a pin in his career, he lost his friends, and I became his world,” Stodden said.
The teenage bride continued, “I just felt there was a lot of weight on my shoulders. I got that it was unconventional but I didn’t get how weird and strange it came across.”
Prior to Courtney Stodden’s interview, the only official information about the separation came from a press release from the reality star’s representative.
The statement read:
“After two and a half years of marriage, Courtney and Doug have decided to become legally separated. This is a mutual and amicable decision that they’re making together. As you know, Courtney was married at a young age. Now, at nineteen, she’s interested in exploring life as an unmarried single young adult — with the freedom to explore her independence.”
The Daily Mail recently got their hands on a copy of the legal separation document Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson filled out following their split. According to the website, Stodden even signed the paperwork with a heart.
“Through their entertainment attorney, Doug Hutchinson and Courtney Alexis Stodden have confirmed terms of their legal separation. For the time being Courtney and Doug will remain living together at their residence in separate rooms and continue to support one another as friends and business partners,” the document explains.
