Christopher Nolan’s next project, Interstellar , will be released in theaters on November 7, 2014.
Based on a script by brother and frequent collaborator Jonathan Nolan, Interstellar marks Christopher Nolan’s next visually stunning mind-bendy adventure after Inception and The Dark Knight Rises . It will be written, directed and produced by Nolan. Emma Thomas, Nolan’s wife and frequent producer, will also produce. Kip Thorne will executive produce.
Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures announced jointly today that they will co-produce and distribute Interstellar, with Paramount handling domestic distribution and Warner Bros. Pictures taking care of the international market. The film will be released on November 7, 2014, in theaters and IMAX.
Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures Brad Grey said in the announcement: “As a filmmaker and storyteller, Chris has continuously entertained the world with his extraordinary and unparalleled talents. I am pleased beyond measure to welcome him to the Paramount Pictures family. Partnering with Chris, Emma, Lynda and Warner Bros. to release this original idea next November is the perfect way to start the Thanksgiving and holiday movie season for audiences around the world.”
In the joint announcement, President of Warner Bros. Pictures Group Jeff Robinov added, “Christopher Nolan is truly one of the great auteurs working in film today, and we’re extremely proud of our successful and ongoing collaboration with him and Emma Thomas. We are excited to be teaming with Paramount, and look forward to working with the Nolans, and producer Lynda Obst, on this extraordinary new project.”
As per usual with a Christopher Nolan project, very little of it is known at present. It is described as “a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding,” which is Nolan for “it’s going to blow your mind, but you’re probably going to like it.”
It was initially reported (over six years ago) that Interstellar was based on a scientific theory by Kip S. Thorne, a Caltech physicist and expert on relativity. His ideas and theories about wormholes intrigued Steven Spielberg, who wanted to develop an adventure movie based on them.
Oh that’s right. Insterstellar was actually originally announced in 2006 , and it was rumored that Steven Spielberg would direct. Jonathan Nolan was brought on in 2007 to write the screenplay, and as of 2010, the two were expected to collaborate on the film. Currently, there is no word on whether Spielberg is still involved in any capacity, but we kindly doubt since his name was left out of the announcement.
