Christ Statue Lightning Strike Destroys Famous Redeemer’s Hands

A Christ statue lightning strike has destroyed a portion of the famous redeemer’s hands.

In a related report from The Inquisitr , a famous anonymous diner leaves “tips for Jesus,” giving waiters and waitresses thousands .

Rio de Janeiro is famous for its Christ the Redeemer statue, which ironically overlooks a city that has become known for its party lifestyle. The statue of Jesus Christ is one of the largest in the world, standing 98 feet tall. As a comparison, the Statue of Liberty is about twice as tall, although India will soon boast the world’s tallest statue when a monolith honoring Sadar Patel is constructed.

Unfortunately, the famous icon from 1931 is now damaged due to the weather. While a Christ statue lightning strike is apparently not that unusual, with bursts of light often making contact with lightning rods stationed on the arms, this time a finger off the right hand broke off:

“They say lightning does not strike the same spot twice. But with the Christ it does.”

Father Omar says the situation can often get pretty hairy if you’re stuck up on top of Corcovado mountain when the weather rolls in:

“I have already endured the situation of being at the Christ at a time of rain and a lot of lightning, and it is scary. But we have a plan to quickly take all visitors away from there.”

Fortunately, the Archdiocese of Rio still has a large stock of the same stone used to construct the Christ the Redeemer statue. Repairs will be undertaken soon to fix the right thumb marred by the Christ statue lightning strike. And it’s not like this will be the first time. In 2010, $4 million was spent on renovating parts of the face and hands.
