Candice Bergen’s 90s show Murphy Brown turned twenty-five this week. Why is this such an important moment for the show? Well, for many it’s a reminder that its last episode, which was aired in 1998, was fifteen years ago. Also, it’s a moment to celebrate its return to television.

Reaching its 25-year milestone, it was announced today that Murphy Brown will be returning to television. Before you start protesting a reboot, you can rest assured that this just means that you will be seeing more Candice Bergen on your television set as the show is going to be entered into syndication.

For fans, this is a chance to relive the golden years, and for others this is a time to binge watch the show as Murphy Brown ‘s repeats will be airing. For those who aren’t familiar, the 1988 series was a pretty bold show back in its day. Not only did Murphy Brown show a woman in a hard-working position as a news anchor, but it allowed a woman to lead a show. That woman was of course Candice Bergen who played Murphy Brown.

Along with the sassy Bergen, Murphy Brown starred Faith Ford, Grant Shaud, Joe Regalbuto, Charles Kimbrough, and Lily Tomlin. The ensemble played a group of reporters that covered hard-hitting news, including politics, lifestyle, and cultural news stories. The sitcom lasted from 1988 to 1998.

Speaking with Zap2it, Candice Bergen was surprised about why it look so long for Murphy Brown to hit syndication:

“I have no idea why it’s taken so long. I was always told it was because the music rights were so expensive, because every episode opened with a Motown song. I’m thrilled it’s going back on — and without commercials, which is lovely. I barely watched the show in its last five years, so I haven’t seen it in a long time.”

Who knows, perhaps Murphy Brown can inspire another wave of young women to become journalists?
