Cameron Diaz, who played the lead role in the 2011 comedy Bad Teacher , will serve as a producer on CBS’s TV adaptation.
Diaz will be reuniting with the film’s writers , Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, who are both executive producers on the series.
In May, CBS announced that the series would get a mid-season order for 13 episodes . Ari Graynor ( For A Good Time, Call… ) will play Meredith Davis, an attractive and unapologetic former trophy wife who pretends to be a teacher in order to find a new man after her wealthy husband leaves her with no money. Graynor will also serve as a producer on the series. The series is adapted from the film by Community ‘s Hilary Winston.
Sara Gilbert, David Alan Grier, Kristin Davis, and Ryan Hansen will round out the cast of the TV series.
In addition to a producing the TV adaptation of Bad Teacher , Cameron Diaz may also return to star in the film’s sequel . Sony acquired the rights to develop Bad Teacher 2 in June. While no deal has been set yet, those involved with the film want Diaz to return in the lead.
What is known about the sequel is that director Jake Kadan will return. Writer Justin Malen has also put together a script that Sony is enthusiastic about because “it hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun.”
Before Bad Teacher 2 happens, Cameron Diaz will be reuniting with Jason Segel, her co-star from the first film, for the upcoming comedy Sex Tape . The film revolves around a married couple who make a sex tape to spice up their relationship, but the tape disappears, and they try desperately to get it back. Kasdan will also be directing Sex Tape .
