Brad Pitt’s World War Z has become his highest grossing film and Paramount is laughing all the way to the bank.
The studio is reporting that the film has passed the $500 million dollar mark worldwide surpassing his previous blockbuster, Troy which made $497.3 million.
Even though the movie cost up too $220 million to make, getting to half a million is much better than was anticipated after getting less than good reviews from critics.
Now, Brad Pitt is no Johnny Depp, but he has name recognition and brings women and men alike to the theater.
According to Paramount, World War Z has set several records for Pitt. It is his best opening at $66 million, when it debuted on June 22, it also brought him a grand total of $197.4 million in the US. The International numbers put it at $305.2 million to date.
Brad Pitt is not a blockbuster actor, but this film was his more mainstream one in a while. Troy was the last big flick Pitt starred in.
Producers faced some difficulties, the script was re-written and the third act re-shot. They didn’t use a big sequence filmed in Russia because nobody liked it. So ti wasn’t smooth sailing.
Some believe that Pitt, director Marc Foster, and Paramount will let it be and will enjoy the fruits of their labor.
With this milestone, they can silence some of the critics who were so harsh with the film at the time.
World War Z is about former United Nations investigator Gerry Lane, played by Pitt. He is a family man who is caught up in trying to catch Zombies who have unleashed an epidemic affecting the entire world. Lane tries to stop the pandemic who is destroying nations and threatens to eliminate all of humanity.
Brad Pitt stars in World War Z alongside Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, and James Badge Dale.
