Beetlejuice 2 is reportedly still in the works over at Warner Bros. Rumors suggest that the original film’s director may return for the long-awaited sequel.
Despite rumors that Warner Bros. was very interested in getting a sequel off the ground, very little information about the project has surfaced in recent months. Outside of reports that Dark Shadows scribe Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg were working on the script, new information is virtually non-existent.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , there’s a chance that Tim Burton may return to direct Beetlejuice 2 for the studio. Since the filmmaker’s unique style helped make the original flick a success, his involvement is definitely cause for celebration.
The publication reports that the director is presently in talks with the studio to direct Beetlejuice 2 . However, Tim Burton hasn’t inked a deal with Warner Bros. as of this writing. In other words, there’s a possibility that he won’t step behind the camera for the sequel.
According to Worst Previews , the Beetlejuice sequel isn’t Tim Burton’s next project. The filmmaker is presently attached to direct Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children . The movie should bow in theaters at some point next summer.
During his interview with Collider last year, Seth Grahame-Smith discussed his plans for Beetlejuice 2 . Although he didn’t drop any details about the project into our laps, he seemed certain that the project was still in the works at Warner Bros.
The writer explained:
“I have a rough idea of what it’s gonna be. However—I should stress this—it’s not a remake, it’s not a reboot, it is a true sequel with Michael Keaton as the title character Beetlejuice. The thing that Tim and Michael and I all agree on, and is most important for me is, I don’t wanna be the guy that destroys the legacy and the memory of the first film; I would rather die. I would rather just not make it, I’d rather just throw the whole thing away than make something that pays no respect and doesn’t live up even close to the legacy of the first film.”
It’s unknown if the studio will continue to move forward with Beetlejuice 2 should Tim Burton decide not to get involved. Since Michael Keaton has agreed to reprise his role as the title character, the project could still find its way to the big screen at some point down the road.
