Stephanie Smith is the author of 300 Sandwiches . The book is the by-product of a request her boyfriend made in June, 2012. Eric Schulte told Stephanie that after making him 300 sandwiches, he would give her an engagement ring. According to the New York Post , Stephanie got the engagement ring after 257 sandwiches on May 20, 2014. Now, she is a few weeks away from her wedding.

Stephanie appeared on Good Morning America on Tuesday to discuss the release of her book, 300 Sandwiches: A Multilayered Love Story, and to talk about her upcoming wedding. She said sandwiches will be served at the wedding.

Smith is the blogger behind 300 Sandwiches , which began when her boyfriend jokingly said, “Honey, you’re 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring” after she made him a basic turkey and cheese sandwich. A non-cook, she realized that with a little effort, she could get the ring, set the date, and be on her way to the domestic future she wanted. She also decided to document it online, launching the blog in June, 2012. After 197 sandwiches, Smith began to get fancy with ingredients like chives, fig jam, and cranberries.

All of the sandwiches are pictured on 300 Sandwiches website in the order in which they were made. Sandwich No. 1 was made on June 17, 2012, and Sandwich No. 300 was made two years later.

The first sandwich was the one that Eric loves the most–turkey and swiss with lettuce. The last sandwich was an updated version of the first one, but it was called Mrs. E’s Sandwich.

“Stephanie’s sandwiches are categorized for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack. Believe it or not, there are eight varieties of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.”

When Stephanie first started making the sandwiches and blogging about them, she received a lot of backlash from people who said she set women back by honoring her boyfriend’s request. Stephanie quickly fought back, saying she wasn’t a “Stepford wife.” Now, Stephanie is laughing all the way to the bank with a book deal and an engagement ring.

Stephanie’s publisher, Dave Zinczenko, had a different opinion about what she was doing and saw it as an opportunity for a book.

“So when she told us about her romantic, passionate, and very funny quest to make her boyfriend 300 sandwiches, our first reaction was for her to put recipes for her sandwiches in a book. It will be a book that everyone can read.”

Stephanie appeared on the Today show in 2012 to discuss with Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie what she was doing and the reason behind it.

“If he wasn’t the kind of guy that was worth one sandwich, I wouldn’t be making 300 sandwiches.”
