Rizzoli & Isles star Angie Harmon’s politics don’t match up with Hollywood (or at least, what we assume about Hollywood ). The 41-year-old actress actually leans center-right unlike many of her outspoken colleagues.
Appearing on the cover of More magazine’s special 15th anniversary issue, Harmon admits she’s a Republican and doesn’t see why everyone just naturally assumes that Hollywood types lean left.
“I’m a liberal Republican…we actually exist,” she said. “Call it naïveté or stupidity, but I didn’t know that unless you are a Democrat, you aren’t allowed to talk politics in Hollywood.”
The married mother of three also talked about homosexuality, which is regarded by many to be one of the crucial social issues separating the parties. For some, it’s the only issue.
But Harmon doesn’t get into the science or the sociology. She skips all that and hits right on the empathy:
“Whether we’re gay or straight, it doesn’t matter,” she said. “We’re all women. We all have the same wonderful situations happening to us, the same horrific situations. We all get our hearts broken.”
The interview took place before the death of her Rizzoli & Isles co-star Lee Thompson Young , so she doesn’t have the opportunity to touch on the actor’s death.
But RumorFix reports that Harmon was visibly distraught at a memorial held for the actor Friday. Though she let co-star Jordan Bridges do most of the talking, a source said that she did manage a few words for her late friend.
“Angie spoke from the heart and thanked his mother, Velma, over and over for all of the wonderful qualities Lee possessed,” the source said.
Angie Harmon hasn’t issued a formal statement regarding Lee Thompson Young’s death.
