I wrote last week that Alexa may have died and no one noticed as the service hadn’t been updated in 10 days at the time of writing. Alexa has only now updated in the last 24 hours, a break of over 2 weeks. There’s zero on Alexa blog about the outage, and all I got was this email
Dear Duncan,
Thank you for your question.
We strive to update the data on our traffic details pages frequently. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, there may at times be a delay in the display of data. The data are still being tracked, but may not be displayed immediately. It has now been resolved, and we lament any inconvenience this may have caused you.
We appreciate and thank you for your interest in Alexa.
Best regards, Alexa Internet Customer Service
Everybody loves to pile on Alexa, but old habits die hard and I’ve kept using the service despite most people giving up. It still has the best package of up-to-date, free statistics available, even if those stats are pretty flawed. But seriously: “due to technical difficulties, there may at times be a delay in the display of data.” Over two weeks, no public recognition that there was a problem, and just a rubbish brushoff after the event? If this is how they treat their supporters, god help the people who hate the service. I’ll probably keep on using Alexa on occasion, but I’m tired of trying to defend a company that doesn’t care about its product or user base.
