A company has revolutionized infant care and monitoring with a smart thermometer that is available as a Bluetooth enabled patch that constantly monitors the baby’s temperature.

Those anxious days of routinely getting up in the middle of the night to check your baby’s fever, which inadvertently woke the infant up, are over. Earlier this year, Blue Spark Technologies had showcased an interesting product which it calls TempTraq. Essentially, the product is a wireless thermometer patch that can be easily applied to a baby to monitor its temperature in case it has a fever.

Aimed at parents looking to keep a close eye on their children’s fevers, the TempTraq has now made its commercial debut at a rather reasonable price of $25. The product is directly available from the manufacturer and promises to cut down on the recovery time of your baby, by allowing it an undisturbed night of sleep.

The TempTraq has a thermometer and a Bluetooth transmitter built into a simple patch that needs to be applied on the baby, preferably under the arm. Thereafter, the smart thermometer shares the readings continuously with a paired smartphone. Since it is a patch, the thermometer has a work-life of just 24 hours, and a fresh patch needs to be applied in case the fever has to be monitored for another day.

Once paired, the smart baby thermometer lets parents know the temperature of their babies without disturbing them, which wasn’t possible earlier with traditional thermometers. Sure, you can use an infrared thermometer, but since the technology is Bluetooth-based, parents needn’t even be in the same room as the baby to take its temperature.

The accompanying app available on the respective app stores takes the process of monitoring the fever of your baby to a whole another level. At the foremost, the app has an inbuilt customizable alarm that will alert the parent in case the temperature of the baby shoots above a certain level. Concerned parents can also log the time when their child eats food and takes medicine so as to keep a better track of their child’s recovery. The app lets the parent know how the infant slept and if the medication did its job. The data can also be shared with a pediatrician.

Though the patch is single use, multiple patches can be simultaneously monitored, ensuring the traditional touch-based thermometer lays dormant in the medicine cabinet. Since many people can be monitored wirelessly and simultaneously, the chances of infection drop significantly.
