The full-length trailer for director Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World is now available for mass consumption online. Turn up the volume and enjoy the ride.
The clip opens with a bang: The Earth is getting destroyed by a brand new threat and only the long-haired hero can keep humanity from getting completely wiped out. In order to stop this sinister villain, Thor must enlist the help of his arch-enemy Loki. The guy who destroyed New York seems just as surprised as anyone about the arrangement.
The plot for Thor: The Dark World will center around the superhero’s struggle against the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. Not only is Malekith looking to destroy Earth, he’s also interested in laying waste to Asgard. Thor definitely has his hands full this time around.
A lot of the footage found in the new trailer was screened at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego. However, this is the first time this stuff is being offered to everyone around the world. It’s definitely an intense clip, especially once you see the destructive capabilities the Dark Elves possess.
Joining Chris Hemworth for the upcoming cinematic adventure are Christopher Eccleston, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Kat Dennings, and an number of actors who helped out with the first installment. Speaking of Portman, her exchange with Hiddleston is classic.
In case you were wondering, Thor: The Dark World takes place after the events in Joss Whedon’s 2012 epic The Avengers. Although most fanboys and fangirls understand this, some people who don’t spend their entire lives pouring over the Marvel universe may be curious about the timeline.
Once Thor is finished battling the Dark Elves, Captain America is expected to return on the big screen. The Winter Soldier is currently slated to hit North American theaters next April.
