When Sony and Marvel Studios made an agreement to have Spider-Man appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), everyone wondered how long he’d stick around. Despite making his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War and having Spider-Man: Homecoming hit theaters next month, there has been no definite word on how much attention the web-slinger will get. Well, that is until now as star Tom Holland has let the cat out of the bag.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be released on July 7 and there is very little doubt that it is going to make Marvel a lot more money. The world even knows that the sequel to the first new Spidey movie is hitting theaters on July 5, 2019, but will that be the end of his time in the MCU?
The world knows he will be in Avengers: Infinity War which will be released next year, but what Marvel Studios character isn’t? Still, that film is not going to count against the number of Marvel films that Spider-Man will deliver to his throngs of fans.
Tom Holland recently spoke with AlloCine and revealed that Spider-Man isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
AlloCine spoke with Holland about how his character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man is being built up and separated from the previous versions. That is when he revealed the information that everyone has been waiting for.
“Yes, there is what we call the arc of the character.There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man, especially, to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and… go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies.”
At first, it seems like it may just be a slip-up or something, but Holland did indeed say the “next two movies.” When asked if he specifically meant there would be two more movies for Spider-Man in conjunction with Marvel Studios, he made sure everything was clearly understandable.
“There will be a S pider-Man 2 and 3… Yeah, well now you know, sorry Marvel. Whoops!”
Now, there is a contractual issue at hand here and Collider breaks it down for all to understand. The deal between Sony and Marvel Studios comes to an end after Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 and the two Avengers movies. That means that if there will be a third film in the trilogy, Marvel and Sony will have to have some discussions.
A trilogy for Spider-Man means that he would get the same treatment as three of Marvel’s top stars in the MCU.

While Tom Holland has already appeared in one Marvel film and is filming another right now, his first solo film is set to be released in less than a month. Spider-Man: Homecoming is really only the beginning of Spidey’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which means he won’t head back to Sony for at least three or four years. Receiving the trilogy of films means that Marvel sees Spider-Man in the same bright light as heroes by the names of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor .
