The first trailer for Hitchcock has finally made its way online. The clip, which gives prospective viewers a good look at star Anthony Hopkins as legendary director Alfred Hitchcock, doesn’t spend a lot of time lingering on Scarlett Johansson or Jessica Biel. Instead, it lays the groundwork for a compelling story about a filmmaker who puts his career and his marriage on the line in order to make what would become one of the greatest motion pictures in history.

According to the official press release, director Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock is a “love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock and his wife and partner Alma Reville. The film takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie ‘Psycho.’ ”

In addition to Anthony Hopkins, Scarlett Johansson, and Jessica Biel, the film also features the talents of Helen Mirren, Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Michael Stuhlbarg, James D’Arcy, Michael Wincott, Richard Portnow, and Kurtwood Smith. Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman co-produced the film. Fox Searchlight will release the film into select theaters this November.

Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock is based on the book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho by author Stephen Rebello, which chronicles the problems the director faced while bringing his iconic thriller to the big screen. Hitchcock’s battle with the studio is the stuff of legend, as was his struggle to get the film past censors.

According to Internet Movie Database , Hitchcock made Psycho for around $800,000, though the film would go on to make around $40 million at the box office. In order to cut costs, he used crew members from the set of Alfred Hitchcock Presents to get things done. Not surprisingly, the film would be the last he’d craft for executives at Paramount Pictures.

The trailer for Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock has been embedded below. Be sure to look for the film in your neighborhood theater on November 23.
