Following the success of his single Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke insists that white folks are now trying to claim him.
Although he’s released a handful of tunes in the past, few people were paying much attention to the singer until his latest song dropped earlier this year. Now that he’s a huge success around the world, Thicke claims white people are trying to “claim” him again.
“The biggest thing I think is [the success] internationally. I never had any love internationally. Being number one in like 80 countries,” the singer explained to The Breakfast Club .
He added, “I think the biggest thing in America is that now white people finally got on it. White people are trying to claim me.”
Regardless of their skin color, people really seem to enjoy Blurred Lines. Robin Thicke is extremely pleased with the success his latest song has enjoyed around the globe.
“After 20 years of making music, to have this kind of success. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world. I got the woman of my dreams. I have a healthy baby. This is just the best thing that could have every happened to me,” he said during his chat with the morning radio show.
The singer apparently isn’t ready to rest on his laurels. Thicke already has another video shoot lined up for this weekend. Since he wants to keep the buzz building, he intends to release a clip for Give It To You while promoting his latest album.
Of course, not everyone is a big fan of Blurred Lines. Some people have reportedly taken offense to some of the lyrics found in Robin Thicke’s breakout single. The Inquisitr previously reported that the singer insists the song isn’t degrading to women .
“If you listen to the lyrics, it says, ‘That man is not your maker.’ It’s actually a feminist movement within itself. It’s saying that women and men are equals as animals and as power. It doesn’t matter if you’re a good girl or a bad girl, you can still have a good time,” he explained.
