Sacre bleu ! The French are apparently in desperate need of some joie de vivre. A recent survey revealed that the French don’t like foreigners, Muslims, themselves, and pretty much everyone.
A survey put together by polling institute Ipsos and the Jean-Jaures Foundation and published by Le Monde shows that the French are largely a pessimistic and xenophobic people , reports MSN . The French have a popular reputation abroad for being artistic, existential, and a bit lazy, and I suppose hating everyone just goes along with it.
Among the survey’s findings: 70 percent of the people there think “there are too many foreigners living in the country,” 74 percent believe “Islam is not compatible with French society,” and 46 percent believe unemployment levels can only be reversed by cutting down on the level of immigration to the country.
The French are also quite paranoid: Roughly 51 percent believe “the decline of France is inevitable,” and 57 percent think that anti-white racism is “quite common.”
French historian Michel Wincock concluded that “the ingredients for populism are there and not just in the ranks of Marine Le Pen’s Front National party.”
The survey also revealed problems for French President François Hollande, with 87 percent of respondents agreeing that “France needs a true leader to restore order.”
The survey revealed that the French don’t just dislike other people, but that they’re terrified of just about everything.
“The French, or at least the vast majority of them, seem to be afraid of everything,” historian Wincock told Le Monde.
The poll was taken from an Internet survey of around 1,000 people, reports The Local .
