This weekend will mark the 35th anniversary of the release of the classic film E.T. , and people are going to celebrate by eating Reese’s Pieces which many have no idea how to correctly pronounce. For the last three-and-a-half decades, and even dating back almost a century, people have been enjoying candies such as Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and there is nothing wrong with that. There is something wrong with how people pronounce the famous candies, and the Internet hates it.
Everyone knows how awesome E.T. really is and they will continue to love it for eternity, but the candy connection is strong. Unfortunately, instead of just enjoying the peanut butter and chocolate candies, there is an interesting argument that keeps coming back up on social media and people are serious about it.
When looking at Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or Reese’s Pieces or any Reese’s candies, how do you pronounce the main name? Yes, that is the argument that keeps coming up on Twitter and other social media sites which has many people getting extraordinarily angry at others.
Some may not find this to be a big deal, but all you have to do is look it up, and you’ll learn it is a lot more serious than you may think. E.T. just loved them and wanted to enjoy them during his time on Earth. He didn’t care how to pronounce them, but the Internet does.
As reported by Simplemost , Harry Burnett Reese invented the famous peanut butter cups way back in 1928 and his name is pronounced “REE-se.” One would think that making his name plural is exactly how one would pronounce the candy, and actually, that is entirely correct.
The correct pronunciation of the small-bite candies is “REES-is” which pretty much just rhymes with “pieces.”

Then again, there are those who believe “Ree-sees Pee-sees” is correct and don’t care if you think differently.

Looking through Twitter, the majority of people appear to prefer that you pronounce “Reese’s” the same way you say “pieces.” While the argument may seem quite simple, that really isn’t the case because many people alter their way of speaking when it comes to the candy loved so much by the famous extraterrestrial.
Yes, there are those who will alter their pronunciation of the word “pieces” when it comes to saying the candy’s name out loud.

This is one of those neverending arguments that will continue for as long as there is the Internet or as long as people eat candy. Reese’s Pieces and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are loved the world over, but the pronunciation of their inventor’s name could end a lot of friendships.
If you find yourself having this very conversation with some of your friends, you may want to find out which side you’re on. Should you be the one that pronounces it differently than everyone else, it is possible you could find yourself sitting alone.
The 35th anniversary of the release of E.T. is big enough all on its own because the film is a classic and even still has an attraction at Universal Studios in Orlando. The movie will go down as one of the greatest ever, but true fans will always think of Reese’s Pieces because of the lovable little alien. Unfortunately, many of those fans will not pronounce the name of the candy correctly which will likely lead to social media backlash.
