Lean Cuisine is recalling some packages of its ravioli after glass fragments were found in them.
The recall was announced by the Food and Drug Administration on Friday. The recall is limited to two days of production where the “best before date” appears ad DEC 2013.
The products were distributed nationwide and the recall is limited to its Lean Cuisine Culinary Collection Mushroom Mezzaluna Ravioli, reports The Huffington Post .
Nestle, the company that makes the Lean Cuisine brand, stated in a press release:
“We apologize to our retail customers and consumers and sincerely regret any inconvenience created by this voluntary product recall.”
The recall was ordered after three customers reported finding glass inside the ravioli. The FDA added that none of the customers reported injuries from the glass.
Yahoo! News notes that the recalled packages were all made in November 2012. The company believes that few of them remain on store shelves, though there may still be some in customers’ freezers. Their production codes are 2311587812 and 2312587812.
Nestle has asked that customers who have a recalled item do not eat it. Instead, they ask to contact Nestle customer service at (866) 586-9424 or email them at [email protected].
Nestle will reimburse customers with a replacement coupon. Nestle spokesperson Roz O’Hearn added:
“This is an unusual complaint for us because we don’t have glass in our factories. We have a no-glass policy. We are very committed to food safety.”
This is not the first time Lean Cuisine has seen a recall. They recalled some of their spaghetti with meatballs dinners in 2011 after customers discovered bits of red plastic in the meals.
