Matthew McConaughey has ditched his scary gaunt look and packed the muscle back on for his role in True Detectives .
Photos from the crime drama shoot in New Orleans show a much more familiar-looking (and healthy-looking) McConaughey strutting around set in a tight wife beater. McConaughey seemed to be back to his stated goal weight of 165 pounds, which he was nearing as of January.
The 43-year-old Lincoln Lawyer actor dropped a whopping 30 pounds for his role as an AIDS patient in Dallas Buyers Club . Early photos from the set of the film shocked celebrity media, showing a dramatic drop from a healthy 170 pounds down to 143 pounds for the role.
In a recent interview , McConaughey revealed that he dreamed of meticulously crafting and consuming a cheeseburger after the grueling five-week shoot.
“I’ll prepare it all and I’ll make sure that it takes three hours just to prepare,” he said. “I’m going to have buns with butter on both sides, toasted and grilled. I’m going to melt the cheese on the top bun, Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise. I want kosher dill pickles sliced nice and thin, diced white onions, slightly grilled until they get almost hard, and some thin jalapeno slices,” he said.
In other Matthew McConaughey-related news, wife Camila Alves McConaughey revealed Wednesday that her most recent pregnancy was a bit more complicated than she let on to the press.
“I had a really tough pregnancy — I had all kinds of things happen throughout the whole [nine months],” she said Wednesday on The View .
“I had strong pains and kept telling the doctors … no one could figure it out. We ended up having to do a c-section,” the 30-year-old explained.
“I told the doctor right before I went in, ‘Once I’m there just take a look, because I know something is wrong.’ They ended up finding all kinds of things in there that we had to take care of.”
The mother of three admitted to some forced downtime, but said that husband McConaughey and her mother, Fatima, have stepped up at home.
“This recovery has been extremely hard because I had a c-section and all these extra procedures,” she said. “I’m not able to exercise … I can’t even pick up my kids, really. I have to be careful — I have another four weeks to go.”
