In remembrance of Cory Monteith , who died earlier this month from a heroin and alcohol overdose, the cast and crew of Glee reunited for a private memorial event this week.
“Today, Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele gathered the cast, crew and producers of Glee, along with colleagues from the network and studio, to share memories and music in an emotional celebration of the life of Cory Monteith,” Fox told E! News in a statement.
“We thank the public for their continued outpouring of love and support as we grieve our friend and colleague during this difficult time.”
After several days of speculation , Fox announced that the fifth season of the hit show would move forward, but that the premiere would be delayed a week due to Monteith’s death.
The first two episodes will be a planned Beatles tribute. The third episode is expected to address Cory Monteith’s death and the fate of his character, Finn Hudson. The episode will be a special tribute to the late actor, and then the fifth season will go on hiatus while its future is determined.
Series creator Ryan Murphy said last week that Lea Michele would have a central role in determining how to proceed with the show. He also offered to write her out of the show if she wishes, but she declined.
“If Lea had said to me, ‘I could never do this again and I don’t want to do this again,’ – you know, she is sort of the show. I would’ve, out of respect to her as a person, said, ‘OK’.”
But Michele has chosen to continue with Glee for now.
Cory Monteith was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver on July 13.
