These errors could otherwise cause further delays but now can be noticed, and corrected, by the taxpayer sooner.
The Where’s My Refund has been updated over the years and now reports the process in stages instead of just letting taxpayers know when the income tax return is available. Still, many people are anxiously awaiting their income tax return checks.
In order to use the Where’s My Refund tool , “you’ll need your Social Security number, your tax filing status (single, married filing jointly, etc.) and the exact amount of the refund you expect. You’ll be able to see the status of your refund. The site is updated once daily.”
IRS spokesman Terry Lemons says the Where’s My Refund website and tool are being overwhelmed this 2013 year: “I think what we’re seeing is just part of the natural evolution in the refund process. Twenty-five years ago, you desperately checked the mailbox every day.”
The IRS recommend only checking once a day since the system is only updated daily. They say the best time to check on tax refunds is on weekends and evenings. Nine out of 10 taxpayers typically receive refunds in less than 21 days when they use e-file with direct deposit.
