‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ For Wii U Is Still In The Works

Aliens: Colonial Marines is still in the works for the Nintendo Wii U despite recent rumors to the contrary.

Kotaku reported earlier this week that the new installment in the Aliens video game franchise may have been cancelled for the Wii U. Given the critical lashing Colonial Marines received upon its release for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, many fans thought the folks at Sega were simply cutting their loses.

According to The Escapist , the game is still on track to arrive for the latest Nintendo machine. A Sega UK representative told the website that cancellation rumors were “not true,” though the company admitted they hadn’t set a release date just yet.

A lot of eyes were on Gearbox’s interactive Aliens sequel , a game which takes place before the events in Alien 3 . Although anticipation for Colonial Marines was high, the reviews that started trickling in suggested something was seriously wrong. The PC version’s score on Metacritic is a disappointing 42. Unfortunately, the game’s console reviews aren’t much better.

Cinema Blend is reporting that the Wii U version could be the worst of the lot. An anonymous tester for Sega of Europe explained that the Nintendo edition of Colonial Marines paled in comparison to its counterparts.

The tester explained:

“The Wii U is basically the same game as the console version but with framerate issues, worse texture loading, and horrendously misguided mini-games thrown in. You get a ‘scanner’ to scan enemies and get bonus points that aid your harming them. When you cut open doors (which happens a lot in the game) you have a game where you have to keep the heat ‘optimal’. They just add frustration, and take away even more from the fun.”

Although Sega has confirmed that Aliens: Colonial Marines is still headed to the Wii U, it’s unclear when the game will hit retail shelves.
