The folks at Microsoft aren’t exactly thrilled with the new nickname the Xbox One has received from fans and detractors alike. In fact, some believe it’s downright disrespectful.

Instead of simply referring to the console by name, people began to use a mashed-up version of the title shortly after it was officially unveiled. After someone managed to thoughtfully combined the words Xbox and One, the name Xbone was born .

Once details about the machine started to find their way online, the name stuck around.

Backlash against the next-gen console began shortly before it was officially revealed. Gamers weren’t exactly thrilled about the possibility of being forced to stay online all the time. Reports that the machine wouldn’t play used games also rubbed people the wrong way.

Once these rumors became a reality, criticisms about the Xbox One’s features started flying left and right. Although the company has since abandoned a lot of these controversial concepts, people still have an Xbone to pick with Microsoft .

Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb, the company’s PR boss, is one person who isn’t impressed with the Xbox One nickname . If you’re one of people using the term Xbone, then Hyrb believes you’re doing the machine a huge disservice.

“I don’t like it… it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself,” he explained during a recent chat at NeoGAF .

Judging from the response Hyrb’s comments have received on Twitter, most people won’t seem to care if Microsoft likes the nickname. You can find some Xbone reactions below.

Major Nelson doesn’t like when people call it the Xbone? My suggestion: just change it before launch like all their other features.
