Gun Control Legislation Will Be ‘Part Of’ Sandy Hook Solution, But ‘Far From All Of It’ [Video]

Many have been calling for stricter gun control laws in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, and the Obama Administration acknowledged today that gun control will be a part of the solution to preventing such violent massacres from happening again, though it will be “far from all of it.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney responded to reporters’ questions today about how President Obama plans on following-up his Sunday night speech in Newtown, Connecticut , during which he stressed a need for national change and hinted to potential policy regarding gun control or mental health.

When asked about the issue of gun control, Carney was only slightly more specific than President Obama. He admitted that gun control will be a part of the solution, but said that the problem was complex, and required a varied response.

“It’s a complex problem that will require a complex solution,” Carney said. “No single piece of legislation, no single action will fully address this problem.”

Gun control “is part of it, but it’s far from all of it,” he added. He also said that “we as a nation have not done enough clearly to fulfill our number one obligation, which is to protect our children.”

“[The school shooting in Newtown] has clearly shocked the entire nation, and has laid bare the necessity of evaluating the various things we can and must do as a nation to better protect our children,” Carney said.

Several questions regarding Adam Lanza and his access to firearms still remain unanswered. It is known that the weapons used in the attack belonged to his mother, Nancy Lanza, and were ultimately used against her as she became his first victim . It has also been reported that she was stock-piling weapons in preparation for a possible apocalyptic scenario , and that she often took her sons shooting. Adam Lanza did attempt to purchase his own gun prior to the shooting , but was denied.
