HBO has renewed its Emmy Award-winning series Boardwalk Empire for yet another season, according to The Hollywood Reporter . The series, which stars Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, and Michael Shannon, will carry on for at least one more year. The good news arrives just three weeks after the shows third season premiere, indicating that HBO is having quite a bit of success with its Prohibition-era drama.
“Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, and the rest of their outstanding team continue to produce a stunning show that never fails to surprise and entertain,” Michael Lombardo, head of HBO programming, explained in a statement. “We are excited to bring this unique series back for a fourth season.”
According to Indiewire , Boardwalk Empire is currently enjoying strong ratings at the network, reportedly drawing in nearly 7.7 million viewers per episode. Given that the program’s popularity only seems to be growing, it’s really no surprise that HBO is interested in giving the series a fourth season.

Although fans have yet to consume everything this season has to offer, they can rest easy knowing that HBO plans on bringing Boardwalk Empire back to the small screen sometime next year. However, a release date for the fourth season has yet to be announced as of this writing.
