A Twinkies sales record was set in the last few days.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the Walmart Twinkies were flying off the shelves on the first day of the Twinkies re-release.
And, no, apparently the number of Americans exercising didn’t match that rise since they’re still gaining weight. The good news is the new Twinkies are healthier and have fewer calories .
Of course, healthier can be relative but in the case of the new Twinkies it’s true. The label for the Twinkies boxes says two cakes amount to 270 calories and weigh 77 grams. The old Twinkies were 150 calories per cake, or 300 per two cakes.
But the healthier Twinkies can be explained by one fact: they’re smaller. The new Twinkies weigh 42.5 grams each or 85 grams for two cakes, almost a 10 percent reduction in size.
But apparently Americans only care that they have their Twinkies at all again. Despite the smaller size, the taste is supposedly the same. Hostess is saying the Twinkies sales record is seven times greater than historic sales levels.
Rich Seban, president of Hostess Brands, says even they were surprised by the Twinkies sales record:
“We knew this comeback would be historic and interest would be significant. But the demand has far outpaced even our most ambitious projections. We are running our bakeries at their fullest capacity and are doing everything possible to make sure we are fulfilling orders to our retail partners as quickly as possible so they can replenish their shelves for eager consumers. We are asking members of the public to be patient. If your store is out of your favorite snack cake, please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to resupply our customers as soon as possible.”
The Twinkies sales record is said to be in excess of 50 million Twinkies, or about 6.75 billion calories. America better hit the gym!
