Hopkinsville, KY – The recent invasion of millions of birds has made life difficult for area residents.

The citizens of Hopkinsville have been contending with a scene straight out of the Alfred Hitchcock thriller The Birds . Millions of blackbirds and European starlings have reportedly descended on the town, leaving a mess of droppings in their wake.

According to My Fox DC , the droppings eventually create a fungus that can be harmful to the lungs. This rings true for both humans and animals. As a result of the bird invasion, Hopkinsville officials have been forced to cut down nearly 300 trees in the area.

Instead of flying south for the winter, the millions of birds have decided to hang out in the town for the season. The end result is a huge mess with no immediate solution in sight.

Reuters reports that there are currently enough birds in Hopkinsville that they tend to block the sun whenever they take flight.

Hopkinsville-Christian County historian William Turner explained:

“I have seen them come in, and there are enough that if the sun is just right, they’ll cloud your vision of the sun. I estimate there are millions of them.”

In an effort to get the birds to pack up and leave town, Hopkinsville officials have hired a pest company to run them out. However, the millions of pesky visitors seem to be hanging around for the moment.

Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time a Kentucky town has had to contend with an invasion of birds. According to The Huffington Post , the town of La Grange was forced with a similar situation earlier this year. Although residents have used air cannons to get rid of the birds, they just keep coming back.

What do you think about the millions of blackbirds and starlings that have invaded Hopkinsville, Kentucky?
