Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt has chosen to leave Twitter over all of the “negativity” directed her way on a daily basis .
The pregnant and newly-engaged Ghost Whisperer star has announced that she will be leaving her 601,000 followers in the dust because of the criticism she regularly receives. She had used Twitter to keep her fans up to date on news and her own daily activities.
But that’s all over now. Hewitt wrote:
“Unfortunately with all the negativity people choose to send on twitter as well as threats to there own well being. I’m sad to say twitter is… no longer for me. I have enjoyed all the kindness and love that came my way, as well as support. But this break is needed.”
She continued:
“Life should be filled with positivity and holding each other up, not making threats and sending bad vibes. To those of you who made it a joy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
So far as we know, Jennifer Love Hewitt hasn’t been engaged in any nasty Twitter beefs lately, so we don’t know what exactly contributed to her decision. She might have been targeted by just a few people who hated I Know What You Did Last Summer for all we know.
But she isn’t the only star to leave the popular microblog lately. Actor Alec Baldwin recently announced that he’d be leaving Twitter for the third time (and the last time, he says).
He decided to leave after attending the funeral of James Gandolfini, where he realized that the Sopranos star had achieved fame and recognition without the use of social media. He then decided that keeping his Twitter handle was a fruitless endeavor.
“I’m sitting there at Jimmy’s funeral… and this stuff really is kind of superfluous… I realized… it certainly isn’t worth the trouble,” he said.
