Royal Baby Condoms: Kate Middleton’s Baby Gift From Finland

Royal baby condoms might be gag gift, or it might be straight-up trolling from the Finnish government. Either way, that’s what they chose to send Kate Middleton on the eve of the Royal Baby’s birth as a present.

The strange “gift basket” from Finland’s social security service Kela contains a snowsuit for the baby, leggings, a hooded bath towel, a hairbrush, a teething toy, and condoms. The package itself is meant to double as a crib, according to reports.

According to a Kela spokesperson , they “wanted to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The maternity package gained such a positive response from all around the world. The timing was perfect that the royal couple are having a baby.”

Finland delivers such baskets to all expectant mothers in the country as sort of a motherhood “starter kit,” and is apparently credited for keeping infant mortality rates low. Royal baby condoms might just be a hint to take a break before baby No. 2.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said that they received the package last week , and that they appreciated the thought. “We were delighted to receive the very kind gift of the maternity package from the Finnish government,” said the spokesperson.

“It was a very thoughtful gesture and we’re very grateful for it. I’m sure the Duke and Duchess will be very interested to see the contents.”

Duchess Kate is due to give birth later this month at the private Lindo wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. This is the same hospital where Prince William was born 31 years ago. A recent legislation change will put the Royal Baby third in line to the throne after William and Prince Charles, whether it’s a boy or girl.
