A newborn child delivered after his parents were killed in a hit-and-run accident in Brooklyn on Sunday has died, a spokesman for the family’s Orthodox Jewish community has said.
As reported earlier by The Inquisitr , Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were en route to the hospital early Sunday morning when the cab they were traveling in was struck by a BMW.
Raizy was thrown from the vehicle, while Nachman was pinned into the front seat and had to be cut out of the car. Both parents were pronounced dead at different hospitals.
Doctors performed a Caesarean section on Mrs. Glauber to deliver the baby who was born weighing four pounds.
The child was said to be in a serious but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, but he did not survive.
Orthodox ommunity leader Isaac Abraham told CBS the baby died around 5:30 am Monday.
“If he would have stayed alive, he would have been in memory and a little reminder to the grandparents of his parents,” Abraham explained. “And now that little boy has been torn away as well.”
Sources told The New York Post that the baby will be circumcised and named, but a funeral will not be held.
On Sunday, police said the registered owner of the BMW, who was not in the car, was charged with insurance fraud.
Both the driver of the BMW and a passenger fled and were being sought, police said.
“We in the community are demanding that the prosecutor charge the driver of BMW that caused the death of this couple and infant be charged with triple homicide, this coward left the scene of the accident not even bothering to check on the people of the other car,” said Abraham.
