Vin Diesel and Marvel Studios might be joining forces.
Movie nerds around the planet fired up the speculation machine after the Fast and Furious 6 star revealed he was taking a meeting with the folks at Marvel.
Unfortunately for fans, even Vin Diesel isn’t sure what the meeting is about. According to the actor, people on the internet might have a better idea about what the studio wants.
“Marvel has requested a meeting … no idea what for … you probably know better than me,” Diesel wrote on Facebook .
Given the actor’s box office success with the Fast and Furious franchise, it’s not surprising the studio is interested in signing him up for one of their projects. People love Vin Diesel, and that translates into box office success.
Universal certainly understands the power of Diesel. Justin Lin’s Fast and Furious 6 was a huge hit for the studio. According to the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo , the film has generated a whopping $647 million worldwide.
The studio is also hoping Diesel’s popularity on social media will help drive people into theaters for Riddick . The third adventure featuring the mysterious anti-hero is slated to hit cinemas in North America on September 3.
What project does Marvel have in mind for Vin Diesel? That still remains unclear. However, Worst Previews points out that he was previously attached to star in Daredevil , a project that never came to fruition. The actor previously expressed interested in landing a role in Avengers 2 on Facebook. Is the studio approaching him for a part in Joss Whedon’s sequel?
Again, this is all speculation on my part. After all, Marvel currently has a number of project being kicked around at the moment, including Dr. Strange and The Black Panther . Edgar Wright is also casting Ant Man , so there’s always the chance the actor is being courted for that movie as well.
For the time being, fans will just have to play the waiting game. Chances are it could be a long wait; just because Diesel lands a role doesn’t mean he’ll be able to share the details right away. However, fans should stay tuned to his Facebook page just in case.
